Hey guys, so this is my first blog post!!! OMG! So just a quick overview of what I intend on posting here and why. On this blog you will find all the questions, answers and resources I wish someone would have given me when I was in high school. A lot of the content will be college themed, but if you aren't interested in that don't worry there will also be resources on how to graduate high school early or how to get the career that fits you. I am in no ways an expert, but I have done extensive research and would like to help all of you guys out with some of the things I have found. So quick backstory on who I am and why this is important to me. Hey! My name is Tyla Josefine. I am a German/American girl. I lived and went to school in Germany until I was in 8th grade. German is my first language and you might be wondering why I am telling you that? Well when I came to America I was the first generation American on my mom's side of the family. My mom had never dealt with the American school system before and didn't know what SAT or GPA stood for or even the importance of them. When I enrolled at my school, I had a 30 minute talk with my guidance counselor on what classes to take and was signed up for Pre-AP classes not even knowing what they were. My school has one college counselor and 2,000 kids so you can imagine that nobody really prepared us for college interviews, the ACT or SAT or even told us about applying for scholarships as a freshman. And this isn't because they lack in care, but rather in resources. My school probably has at least 25% of the student body as a first generation American but there isn't anybody to help us understand the system. Also, I am sure that the same percentage of students might be the first to go to college in their family. I'm here to write about some things I found through extensive research because every student should have this knowledge.
